A warm welcome

However hard things feel right now, you don’t have to navigate them alone.

I’m Miriam — a BACP Accredited counsellor and psychotherapist based in Duffield and Allestree, Derbyshire. For more than fifteen years I’ve sat alongside people through anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties and the quieter, harder-to-name struggles of being human.

My work is integrative and gently paced. Together we’ll create a confidential space where you can be honest, make sense of what’s happening, and find a way forward that feels truly your own.

Why people choose to work with me

Therapy that meets you where you are

  • Walking therapy in nature

Side-by-side conversations on quiet Derbyshire paths — often easier than sitting face-to-face.

  • Integrative, relational approach

Drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT ideas — shaped around you, not a manual.

  • Flexible formats

In-person in Duffield, online across the UK, or by telephone — choose what works each week.

  • Rooted in Derbyshire

Easily reached from Derby, Belper, Allestree and the surrounding villages.

Therapy for men

Straight talk, real tools, no performance needed

A lot of men I work with arrive saying they ‘should be handling this’ or that therapy feels like admitting failure. It isn’t. It’s a practical decision to sort something out — like seeing a physio for a shoulder or a mechanic for a car.

We work on what’s actually going on: stress that’s bleeding into everything, anger that comes out sideways, pressure you can’t talk about, or a sense that you’ve been running on empty for too long. Together we build a toolkit you can use — not just insights you forget by Tuesday.

What men often bring

  • Stress and burnout from work, family or financial pressure
  • Anger that feels out of control or leaks into relationships
  • Anxiety that keeps you awake or stops you doing what you want
  • Relationship difficulties — communication, intimacy, or feeling shut out
  • Bereavement, loss or life transitions you haven’t had space to process
  • A general sense that something’s off, even if you can’t name it yet
